BioBums

Field biology and environmental jobs · since 2011

Jobs by email, one at a time, or a single daily digest

BioBums is a human-curated, jobs-only email list for field biologists, wildlife and fisheries techs, botanists, biological monitors, and environmental scientists. You won't be overwhelmed by non-career related postings.

Each job arrives as its own email, so you can read it anywhere, even with one bar of signal, and forward it to a friend who'd be a good fit.

Since 2011

BioBums was started on April 25, 2011 by R. Joe Brandon, founder of ShovelBums, the world's largest archaeology and CRM job list that's been running since 1999. When the original mailing list service provider shut down in 2020, the list was put on hiatus. In 2026, Sam Brandon graduated with a degree in Wilderness Biology and Natural Resource Management and revived the list.

For job seekers

For employers

Job postings are free during the relaunch and rebuild so you can both help the list grow and get a feel for how it helps your group!

You can post seasonal, temporary, and permanent positions in biology, ecology, and environmental compliance. To post a position you simply need to:

  1. Send a blank email to BioBums+subscribe@groups.io, reply to the confirmation it sends you, and you're in.
  2. Then send the full job in the body of your email, with location, dates, pay, and how to apply, to BioBums@groups.io.

Send the message exactly as you want it to appear, no need to include "please post" or anything like that. Every post is reviewed before it goes out.

Why "Bums"?

My G'ma Peg made a joke about how my dad's days doing itinerant contract CRM work was kind of like how Ski Bums worked, and the name stuck! Among archaeologists, it's a title that's earned, not given. Most of us have been one, and plenty of senior scientists still are at heart. But BioBums is not just for entry-level jobs. It is for all levels of employment.
